OSP Design Technician

General Description:

Milhouse is seeking candidates for its Telecommunications Division in its Chicago office to perform a variety of complex and technical office and field duties related to the design of telecommunication networks. The Telecom team delivers Telecommunication infrastructure solutions to utilities and the commercial wireless industry. Our ideal candidate will create new and update existing drawings for various telecommunications features utilizing AutoCAD, O-Calc and ARAMIS-DT. Drawings will include floor plans, elevations, site plans, grounding, manhole and conduit details, aerial fiber and copper cable, construction prints, etc. The OSP design technician will have an opportunity do site visits to take notes and measurements to be used by the engineer to design the placement of new telecom equipment specified by the customer. The applicant will work closely with engineering personnel to create accurate engineering packages for construction. Required Skills:

·         Create and/or update 2D design drawings of outside plant telecommunication systems to be reviewed by engineering.

·         When required, determine the routing of cable by performing physical walkdowns, including documenting footages and access points.

·         Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical specifications, professional    documentation, maps and work prints.

·         Communicate effectively to management and be able to update on progress of a project as needed.

·         Follow detailed procedures and, at times, be requires to adjust and adapt to changing standards and procedures with minimal notice.

·         Motivation and self-direction in performing to critical deadlines.

·         Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.

·         Work with team and other departments to coordinate drafting priorities and specifications.

·         Ability to prioritize and organize effectively.

·         Perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.



Required Experience:


·         1-3 years’ experience with AutoCAD and ARAMIS-DT software is a must.

·         Experience with O-Calc, ARES, Google Earth is preferred.

·         Experience with Visio, Microstation, MS Excel, MS Word, Pole Analysis software, GPS handheld systems and other Industry-related hardware and software is a plus.
