Summary: The Project Accountant, Manager will report into the CFO and manage a staff of two additional project accountants. Such individual will be responsible for supervising the entire process of billing and collection.  The project accountant team under the supervisory leadership to the Project Accountant Supervisor will be expected to work with the project management team on a daily basis, including pre-invoicing meeting to ensure invoices are issued correctly on the first instant.

Primary accounting and administrative support for a project from project start up through final closeout.  Serves as the liaison between the project and the accounting department, ensuring all accounting standard operating procedures are followed for each project.  Performs activities as related to contracts, bonds, insurance, payables, liens, billings, payroll/cost/budget reports for the project management team.  The Project Accountant Supervisor must have working knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the accounting field.  Relies on general instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.


  • Responsible for project set-up and maintenance
  • Manage, train, and assign of work among the billing staff
  • Responsible for project cost/schedule monitoring, which includes monitoring of actual vs. financial percent completes, provide suggestions for proactive cost control improvements, monitor employee hours charged to projects on a weekly basis and monitor sub-consultant/subcontractor invoices/payments against the contract terms
  • Responsible for understanding the areas of compensation and payment clauses, overhead rates, revenue enhancers per the contractual terms of a project
  • Provide information to appropriate staff regarding project status
  • Perform estimates to completion and revenue determinations
  • Prepare worksheets, schedules, exhibits and summaries to be used in financial reports
  • Participate in project kick off and review meetings with Project Managers, Section Managers and Vice Presidents
  • Prepare invoices for all assigned projects on a monthly, interim, and milestone basis
  • Collaborate with key staff to process monthly invoicing/billings to primes or owners
  • Enter all financial paperwork into the accounting system to ensure timely and accurate job cost information.  This includes owner and sub change orders, owner billings, budget transfers, subcontractor pay requirements, payroll and accounts payable invoices, etc.
  • Perform journal entries upon request
  • Understand the nature of the project cost systems and the information processed. Bring issues to the attention of the Accounting Manager and the Project Manager for assistance and further evaluation
  • Assist in reviewing, tracking and posting in-house direct expense items
  • Assist Project Managers in closing projects and contracts once project is complete and all costs are billed and collected
  • Process corporate payroll
  • Manage processes for projects with special requirements such as certified payroll, special reporting, etc.
  • Generate pay applications, reports, and billing summaries
  • Participate in and support of accounting and financial audits
  • Perform other related accounting/financial tasks
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or related experience
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in project accounting, preferably in the construction industry
  • Experience demonstrating the ability to prepare and review invoices
  • Experience working with federal, public and private sectors
  • Strong multi-tasking, organizational and analytical skills to define problems, collect data, evaluate facts, draw valid conclusions and detail-oriented
  • Competent accounting and internal control skills as related to project entities/ contracts
  • Strong Excel, Word, and Outlook knowledge
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a timely manner
  • Ability to interpret and manage various project accounting data and documents
  • Ability to work independently with moderate supervision
  • Working Knowledge in Deltek Vision 7.3 + software is highly desirable
  • Prior supervision experience is highly preferred
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, including cross-functional teams
