Summary:

Milhouse Transportation Engineering Division is seeking to hire a civil or structural engineering professional who has the expertise with providing PS&E deliverables for projects on interstates and other state facilities, county arterials, and city networks. This position is considered to be a key management position within an operational organization that requires coordination of personnel within Milhouse and externally with sub-consultants in order to accomplish assigned tasks. The ideal candidate will be successful as a seller-doer in close coordination with a dedicated sales structure.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manages a team of highway/roadway engineers for state, county, and city clients. Responsible for and reports regularly on project quality, budget and schedule. Directly responsible for developing strong client relationships.
  • Typical duties are likely to include the following: Coordination with all complimentary disciplines (roadway, drainage, structural, traffic, public involvement and environmental), technical preparation and supervision of roadway and planning design tasks, perform plan quality reviews, participate in value engineering studies
  • Performs work involving the preparation of roadway and highway design using local (State, County or City) or AASHTO standards at both conceptual and final design levels.
  • Development of design and planning project schedules and budgets.
  • Supervises the design and ongoing progress of a project, including the coordination of the project with City, State, and County officials, and other outside agencies.
  • Reviews plans and prepares or reviews technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates.
  • Supervises the work of experienced and junior engineers and/or technical support personnel assigned to the project while providing a learning environment focused on upward and equitable growth.
  • Performs other duties assigned by Management.
  • Strong organization and communication skills as required to create and execute project plans, respond to client requirements in a timely fashion and recommend improvements to the operations of the Transportation Division.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering is required
  • Registration as a Professional Civil or Structural Engineer is required, Illinois PE registration preferred or the ability to become registered within 6 months of being hired. Milhouse will assist in obtaining licenses in the various other states which we operate in.
  • A minimum of 15 years’ of progressive experience designing highway/roadway projects which includes 5 years of managing multiple design teams performing the work.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate all phases of a project.
  • A thorough knowledge of Microstation.
  • A thorough knowledge of GEOPAK is required
  • Preferred experience with  OpenRoads, AutoTURN and other Bentley and other vendor transportation related software packages.
  • Technical experience preparing feasibility studies, proposals (Project Approach) and reports.
  • IDOT pre-certifications is a requirement or ability to become pre-certified in one or multiple categories
  • Knowledge of ProjectWise, P6 and Deltek are desirable.
